Liam Duggan, was a PGA advanced professional based in Tralee, Ireland. He was a member of Newcastle West Golf Club for many years, represented the Club as an amateur and served as Assistant Professional at the club. He dedicated his short life to teaching people to love golf just as much as he did. He helped many PGA golfers nationally both in an academic and a personal way and always supported anyone that needed help. He set up LD Golf. His primary goal was to bring the sport of golf to schools in Ireland and to develop professional golfers of the future. His passion for golf was infectious and children loved being involved when Liam was teaching.
Last year, Liam became suddenly unwell. He required multiple surgeries and battled for three weeks against Sepsis. He fought hard but sadly lost his battle just over three weeks later at the age of 37. The void in our lives was enormous and we felt lost in how to cope with what was happening.
Then, his friends showed us the importance of celebrating Liam and his legacy in the golfing world. They organised a 2 day golf classic in Newcastle West Golf Club. The atmosphere was incredible. Those who shared in Liam’s life work came from all over the country to help us remember him, to celebrate him. It was such a comfort.
The event was also used as a platform to raise awareness of sepsis. Something we knew little about but had affected us in such a big way. We want to continue to be a voice for sepsis awareness with the Liam Duggan Memorial Golf Classic. We want to make the event just as incredible as last year. For this reason, any sponsorship we could possibly get for prizes or tee box sponsorship would be greatly appreciated. It would ensure we could build on the foundation we have previously set and hopefully take things further.
